Crowns
Crowns began in response to Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022. Three crowns were constructed entirely from hand-extruded silicone sealant, using specially devised rigs to build up dense, upright prongs around a formed rim.
In custard yellow, pudding pink and sanitary grey, the works borrow as much from piped confectionery and theatrical props as from royal regalia. Their elaborate surfaces retain the loops, drips and trailing peaks of the extrusion process.
Two crowns were subsequently presented together on white satin cushions as Soft Power, an installation reflecting on the ceremonial and diplomatic value of the British monarchy.
